The newest central holders to that imaginative turf are New Zealand’s The Naked And Famous also known as  T/N/A/F.

These five young New Zealanders have a seemingly effortless potential at their disposal to secure the relentless hooks and giddy fun one has always come to anticipate from the best indie electro-pop while striving for something atmospheric, grander and more brooding.

Quick Start Guide The Naked And Famous:

The Naked and Famous is a five-piece indie electronic band hailing from Auckland, New Zealand, founded in 2007. The group comprises of Thom Powers (vocals, guitars), Alisa Xayalith (vocals, keyboards), Aaron Short (keyboards), Jesse Wood (drums) and David Beadle (bass). They have issued three studio albums. Since 2012, the group has been based in LA.

This New Zealand’s indie electronic band produce enchanting, melodic pop with the post-punk influence of the 1980s. Anchored on talents of the vocalist/instrumentalist Thom Powers and the vocalist Alisa Xayalith, the band issued two EPs before bringing in members to perform live.

They issued their debut album in 2010. It featured the number one track “Young Blood.” The Naked and Famous went on an extensive world tour, playing some 200 odd dates to support their debut.

With the end of the tour, the band found themselves moving to LA in 2012 with the goal of composing and recording their highly anticipated release of sophomore. Working together with Justin Meldal-Johnson and Alan Moulder, the band unveiled their 2nd studio album; In Rolling Waves, in Sept. 2013.

Buoyed by the tracks “I Kill Giants,” “A Stillness,” and “Hearts Like Ours,” the album peaked at No.14 on Billboard’s United States Top Alternative Albums chart and attained No.4 in New Zealand.

In 2016, the band came back with their 3rd full-length studio album. It came after a prolonged break during which time Xayalith and Powers terminated their loving relationship; a heartbreaking transition which inspired the world-class recording of this album. Produced at the home of Powers in the Echo Park in LA, the album featured the track “Higher.”

Career Highlights:

The band was nominated for 6 awards at the New Zealand Music Awards in 2011 for the Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Best Group, People’s Choice Award and the Best Alternative Album.

On top of this, the group was also nominated for the New Zealand On Air Best Music Video and won the MAINZ Best Producer Award and the MAINZ Best Engineer Award.

This talented group has also got credit from other sources in the pop culture. In the previous their songs have been used for concerts such as Degrassi, The Vampire Diaries, Made in Chelsea, Grey’s Anatomy, Gossip Girl; the films The Cabin in the Woods and Pitch Perfect; and the video games Forza Horizon and FIFA 12.

The group settled in LA in the mid-2012 after finishing their tours for their first album. They had played more than 200 shows in 24 nations from 2010 to 2012. Sharing a home over the Laurel Canyon’s back, they started work on composing and showcasing their 2nd album. Their aim was to record an album which could be performed live, not depending on the backing singles—something the band had constantly eschewed.

On 28th Feb. 2013, the group announced One Temporary Escape, a concert film recorded in 2012 at The Warfield in San Francisco. It was issued for free download on 18th March 2013.

On 3rd July 2016, the group announced their new track “Higher” would be unveiled on 7th July. Upon the release of the single, the band also revealed that their new album entitled; Simple Forms was set to be issued on 14th October 2016 through their label Somewhat Damaged in collaboration with the Kobalt Label Services.

On 24th August 2016, they issued another track entitled; “Laid Low.” The album was recorded at Echo Park studio of Powers and released as per the announcement. In February 2017, it was announced that the group would play as opening acts, along with Wavves, in 2017 spring tour of Blink-182 that would visit mainly the southern United States.

Present Status:

Last time we looked (mid 2017) the band was touring all over the world.
